After 12 years, Games Done Quick has raised over $30 million for various charities, including Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. That first year, the group raised $10,000 for Switzerland-based Care International. Uyama had hoped to host the event at MAGFest, but technical issues led the organization to move players from the hotel to his home. The charity stream began in 2011 when co-founder and events director Mike Uyama asked his mother to borrow the house for three days while he and his friends speedran online games. Merkle added that the organization consulted with medical professionals to ensure the safety of each attendee at the event.įallout Speedrunner Tomatoanus describing a bug he uses live at AGDQ 2020. “It was quite stressful preparing for the event, having only been online for over two years, but we were all focused to make it happen.” “It was a huge morale boost to see everyone in person again,” Matt Merkle, COO for Games Done Quick, told PCMag.

This snake-a-thon proved his skills as a runner for the cluster truck community but that's not all he did, he innovated, he used a portable truck boost which Matt first had developed to further push the game to its limits, but that's not all he found out, if you stop and jump on the landing side of a truck you can propel yourself upwards, allowing you to see large chunks of Skipping levels in a total Snake-A-Thon, finding new jumps in 14 different levels and finishing with a time of 1941, but he actually wouldn't stop there he'd only just started doing a Snake-A over the course of almost a year and a half -Thon having single-handedly lowered the record by over four minutes, you wouldn't be crazy to think that this sneak-a-thon would hold the record forever, or at least as long as the record holders before him but you can Couldn't be more wrong January 16th 2020 Emily did this run oh my god dude oh my god that's a huge PV 37 that's a huge fifi slash record oh my god oh my god what you saw there on levels three, ten, nine, four, nine, seven and nine, nine was nothing new, Snake-a-thon had used it for several of his records on his 910 where he would use it to jumping to the button on the boss's head it would become known as the paw truck boos.Summer Games Done Quick is taking place in person after nearly two years of COVID-based restrictions that have forced the speedrun charity to hold competitions virtually. Two months later, on August 23, 2018, he posted a time that would eventually become a world record.
Playing faster over the next few months with no new discoveries usually resulted in fewer fatalities than the run before it, but on April 29, then 3 26 a time matched by a totally immortal run and beating matt's world record by 10 seconds on tue That run was incredibly difficult to complete and as such there was never much competition, meaning until September later that year the run was not beaten by anyone other than himself being hidden, the level at which hidden the game understood was just insane, he had some insanely creative new jumps and his movement couldn't be been much better, that run was so good it would be four years before he was beaten for the first and only time, but that's not the end of the story of the Cluster truck speedrunning but just the beginning just three days after Hidden 3 15 on September 27th 2016 the full game was released. Players would incorporate Hidden's Tricks into their runs and lower the record.
Matt took over the detection of Hidden and brought his time down to 427 on the same day, but Hidden wasn't hiding the next day, wouldn't innovate again this time with a delayed jump through intentional delaying Of your jump you could move forward a much greater distance much faster he didn't use his trick much in his first run with it but Hidden's two tricks would become the standard for fast movement in the cluster truck, for now Hidden would get a 3 58, the game's first sub 4.
